Wins “Best-In-Test”

Nortel Networks* Business Communications Manager (BCM) was named “Best-In-Test” in a comprehensive evaluation of sub-1,000-station IP PBXs conducted by Miercom on behalf of Business Communication Review. BCM earned this distinction based on voice-quality, exceptional manageability and noteworthy advanced features, according to an article published in the February 2003 issue of Business Communications Review. BCM received the highest overall rating among all products evaluated.

Miercom, a network consultancy and product test center, conducted six weeks of extensive testing during November and December 2002 on IP PBX systems of less than 1,000 ports. Products from seven vendors were tested in four different categories – Basic Features, Advanced Features, Management and Performance.

BCM received the highest scores for voice quality and feature functionality in the Miercom testing and performed 88 percent of the station features.

“The manageability of Nortel Networks BCM is exceptional, and it has an impressive array of advanced features,” said Ken Percy, technology analyst, Miercom. “In addition to functioning as a small IP PBX, BCM offers up several data capabilities, including VPN, router and firewall.”

BCM is the only converged voice and data solution that gives small- to medium-sized businesses and branch offices a choice of either an IP-enabled or pure-IP strategy. This applications-rich platform integrates KSU/PBX, voice over IP gateway and Quality of Service (QoS) data routing capabilities in a single, cost-effective solution.

Through a combination of the BCM’s base management package, Unified Manager and an additional standalone application called BCM Monitor, BCM provides administrators with highly granular real-time monitoring functionality, well conceived and detailed events, alarms, and useful, proactive diagnostic troubleshooting. Network Configuration Manager allows centralized management of up to 2,000 BCMs in the network.
